Letter from the Principal

De La Salle

Office of the Principal

September, 2015

Dear Parents:

As we turn the page on the month of August and patiently await the coming of cooler weather, I wanted to update you on a number of events and happenings here at De La Salle during September.

Senior Retreat

Our senior class has its retreat this Friday, September 4th, and we ask for your prayers for a successful retreat for this group of students.

One Book for Justice Assessment

Our “One Book for Justice” assessment on The Glass Castle is due on Thursday, September 10th. On this day, all students are required to bring to school their completed poster boards. On one side of the poster board will be a one to two-page typed reflection; on the other side will be a creative, artistic interpretation. Students will be placed in groups of ten and will present their reflections to the small group. All details regarding the assessment, including the grading rubric, are posted on our website and on Edline. Please direct any questions about this assignment to our Campus Minister, Mr. Tony Behan, at [email protected].

Parent-Teacher Conference

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 17th. We will have our first semester Parent-Teacher Conferences on this evening. We encourage all parents to come to campus on this night for individual conferences with teachers. Conferences begin at 4:00 pm and end promptly at 7:00 pm. We ask that you limit your individual time with teachers to five minutes. Of course, if you feel like you need more time with a teacher, you are always welcome to set up a conference by appointment with that teacher for another day.

Early Dismissal

Also this month, on Friday, September 18th, we will have a 12:00 pm dismissal from school. A very large percentage of our student body and our faculty will be travelling to Farmerville, LA, for that night’s football game, a trip that will take approximately five-and-a-half hours. In order for our school day to process as routinely as possible and to facilitate the timely arrival of all our students involved in this extra-curricular event, we believe this 12:00 pm dismissal necessary. Thank you for your patience with this change.

Extracurricular Activities and Outdoor Kitchen

Our football, volleyball, and cross-country teams are in full swing, and our drama club, La Troupe De La Salle, will present its first play of the year, You Can’t Take It with You, at the very end of the month. Also, the construction of our new outdoor kitchen is almost completed. This new feature will be used for preparing food for student, parent, and alumni functions and should be a significant addition to our outdoor activities.

Principal’s Assembly

Also, in early October, we will hold our first Principal’s Assembly of the year, wherein we recognize truly outstanding achievements by our students both at and outside De La Salle. If you would like your child recognized for any outstanding achievement that occurred outside of De La Salle (any special accolade that we would not necessarily be aware of), please email me with the details of the achievement, and I will work to include this recognition in our assembly. (Because we are limited by time at these assemblies, I cannot guarantee all students will be recognized; however, any student who is not recognized at the assembly will be recognized on the next day’s morning announcements).

As always, we thank you for entrusting your children to us, and we look forward to a productive and exciting September. Take care, and may God bless you and yours.

Sincerely,

paulsig
