February Letter from the Principal

De La Salle

Office of the Principal

February, 2016

Dear Parents:

We are rapidly approaching our Mardi Gras holidays, and we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a joyful, safe and relaxing break.  We have many upcoming events in the month of February, and I sincerely hope that this letter helps keep you abreast of all that is happening at De La Salle.  As always, please continually refer to our website and Edline for information and calendar updates, and feel free to contact us via phone or email if you have questions.

Mardi Gras Holidays

Reminder that there is no school this Friday, February 5th.  We are off from school all of next week, and we return to school on Monday, February 15th.

Catholic Schools Week

This week, February 1st through the 6th, is Catholic Schools Week.  We ask you to remind your child of the blessing of a specifically Catholic education, and we introduce the school day each day this week with a special prayer to help remind us of this privilege during this special week.

Parent-Teacher Conference, Thursday, February 18th, 4:00-7:00 pm

Parent-Teacher Conference will take place from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 18th.  Teachers will be available during this block for individual conferences.  We ask that you limit conferences to no more than eight minutes per teacher as based upon the length of the “line” outside the teacher’s classroom.  We thank you in advance for your understanding in this regard.

Junior Retreat, Friday, February 19th

Our second Junior Retreat is Friday, February 19th, from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, on the campus of Loyola University.  We will transport this group of forty-four juniors to and from Loyola, and we will feed them dinner.  Letters have been sent home informing which juniors will participate on this retreat, and a list has been posted on Edline.  Please direct any questions to our Campus Minister, Mr. Tony Behan, at [email protected].

SACS Visit, February 23rd-25th

De La Salle will host a team of educators from AdvancED on our campus from February 23rd through February 25th as we seek to renew our state accreditation standard for the next five years.  This is an extremely important visit, and students, faculty, and administration and staff will be completely engaged during these days to ensure the SACS visiting team receives our complete attention and cooperation.  This visit will necessitate a change in our usual daily class schedule as follows:  Tuesday, February 23rd, we will have a 2:00 pm dismissal; Wednesday, February 24th, we will have a 2:45 pm dismissal.  We thank you for your patience with this change.

La Troupe de La Salle

La Troupe de La Salle will be staging Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible on Thursday, February 25th, Friday, February 26th, and Monday, February 29th in the Brother Arsenius Center Theater.  Please come out and enjoy these performances.

Mr. Joey Van Zandt

Beginning this Wednesday, Mr. Joey Van Zandt will take over Mrs. Kate Cunningham’s classes as she begins her maternity leave.  Please help me in welcoming Mr. Van Zandt into our De La Salle family.  He will be teaching Algebra II for the remainder of the spring semester.

De La Salle Marching Band, Cavalettes, and Cheerleaders

Our Band, our Cavalettes, and our Cheerleaders will proudly represent De La Salle and our storied history in the following Mardi Gras parades:  Caesar, Babylon, D’Etat, Thoth, and Rex.  Come out and watch the Cavs lead on during these parades!

Extracurricular Activities

Boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, the wrestling team, and the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are now moving to the conclusion of their seasons and jockeying for playoff positions.  Baseball, softball, tennis, and track and field are quickly nearing their respective openers.  Please come out and support the Cavs as they take to the field and the floor!

As always, we thank you for entrusting your children to us, and we look forward to an enjoyable and restful break. Take care, and may God bless you and yours.

Sincerely,

paulsig
