Dear Members of the De La Salle Community:

We never know what life challenges God will lay before us, yet we know with certainty the power of prayer and God’s enduring love for us. Today, we ask for your prayers on behalf of Dr. Michael Guillot, De La Salle’s President, for his recovery. Dr. Guillot received an updated diagnosis regarding his condition, and he has now authorized the Corporate Board to release this information to the De La Salle community.

Two weeks ago, Dr. Guillot suffered what was thought to be a stroke. It now appears that the stroke-like symptoms were caused by a node on his brain, which resulted from a type of cancer. Dr. Guillot is presently undergoing radiation treatment, and his highly experienced medical team is working to determine what further medical actions are needed. His family and friends maintain strong hope that with prayer, the expertise of his doctors, and the support of his De La Salle family, Dr. Guillot will fully recover.

Although Dr. Guillot will be absent from De La Salle for an extended period while he undergoes treatment and testing, the resolve of the Corporate Board and the Louisiana Lasallian Education Corporation is to assure that the success and momentum, which Dr. Guillot has instilled at De La Salle for the past three years, continues. Like all exceptional leaders, he built an outstanding team, which is fully committed to the continual implementation of Dr. Guillot’s vision for De La Salle with enthusiasm and vigor in his absence. The Corporate Board has appointed one of the key members of Dr. Guillot’s team, Dr. Myles Seghers (’65), as Interim President. Dr. Seghers has decades of Catholic educational experience in the New Orleans area and was gracious to take on the duties of the President. Dr. Seghers named two fellow alumni to serve in enhanced leadership positions. Mr. Tony Bonura (’86) has been named Executive Vice President of Advancement and Mr. Paul Kelly (’83) has been appointed as Interim Principal. Please be assured that this newly formed administrative team along with the current faculty and staff will continue to lead with fervor and Lasallian love, with the goal of providing an academic program that will prepare De La Salle students for college and future-life experiences. Thus, De La Salle will continue to excel in academics and extracurricular activities through the collaborative efforts of every member of its school community.

We pray for the intercession and blessings of our founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle, Dr. Guillot’s recovery, his family, and the entire De La Salle community. Thank you for being an integral part of De La Salle’s efforts to build a path of greatness for future generations of Cavaliers based on its 65 year legacy of Lasallian education on St. Charles Avenue. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Myles Seghers at 504-895-5717 or [email protected].
