LAFARGUE PIANOS TO HOST NEW ORLEANS AREA MUSIC EDUCATION ADVOCACY PANEL DISCUSSION

Metairie, LA (LAFARGUE PIANOS, LTD.) October 7, 2013: LAFARGUE PIANOS of Metairie, LA will host a music education advocacy panel discussion on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The panel will consist of business and community leaders in the New Orleans metro area with a music background who have achieved success in other career paths. The objective is to allow the panelists to discuss the role that music education and participation played in providing the foundation for their success and additionally, to facilitate discussion regarding the role of music education in developing the skills required for success in the 21st century.

Representatives from the education community will discuss education innovations and reforms and the role that music and arts education can potentially play in that process. Local educators will be invited and allowed to participate in a Q&A session following the panel discussion. The panel members participating in the event are as follows:

  • Newell Normand, Jefferson Parish Sheriff
  • James Letten, Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning, Tulane University Law School
  • Amy Alvarez, NOCCA Social Worker, LCSW/MPH, Custody Evaluation and Adoption
  • Counselor Rod Miller, President/CEO, Greater New Orleans Business Alliance
  • Michael Guillot, President, De La Salle High School
  • Michelle Blouin, Williams, Chief Academic Officer, Jefferson Parish Public School System

The panel discussion will end at 8:15 p.m., with an additional 30 minutes allocated for audience/panel Q&A, taking the event to 8:45 p.m. Craig Cortello of LAFARGUE PIANOS will serve as moderator for the discussion. Refreshments will be served.
