12 De La Salle students qualify for State Literary Rally

Following the District Literary Rally held at Loyola University recently, 12 De La Salle students placed in the top three or four positions, qualifying them to compete in the State Literary Rally, De La Salle Literary Rally Coordinator Peggy St. John announced recently.

Ordinarily, only the top three placers qualify to move on, unless two or more students from the same school qualify in the same event.  The top placer moves on, and the next highest student from another school moves up.

From De La Salle, those who may compete at State include 4th placers Alexis Bonura – Biology I and Laine Wendel – French III.

Placing 3rd in their events are Jane Marie Sullivan – Health, and Dayna Marie Johnson – World History.

Placing 2nd are Rebecca Frank – English IV, Max Rosen – Fine Arts Survey, Zachery Steverson – Journalism, Brandon Gautier – Latin II, Louis Sivori – Physics, and Connor Haynes – U.S. History.

Taking 1st in their events are Nicholas Evans – Latin I and Angelica Hofstetter – Sociology.

Two other students placed well in District, but in their courses, there is no competition at the State level.  Madison Schumacher placed 3rd in French IV, and native French speaker Quentin Castagné placed 4th in Spanish IV.

Although they did not qualify for State, four other De La Salle students placed 5th in District. They include Kelten Gonzales – Advanced Math-Pre Calculus, Devin Lockett – Civics, Anne Morris – English I, and Celeste Bioc – French I.

“We are always proud of our Cavaliers who excelled at District and will once again be representing our school at the State Competition,” St. John said.  “We will also have nine students entering the Open Events at LSU in Spanish I, II, III and French II, III.”

“Several of our foreign language competitors also placed well recently at the Foreign Language Festival in Hammond,” she said, “so we hope they will represent us well at State competition as well.”
